Mid-Atlantic Student Convention

“Perfect practice makes perfect” echos in the ears of 22 students preparing for the annual Mid-Atlantic Student Convention to be held at Tuscarora Camp and Conference Center April 20-24, 2009. Generally referred to as “Regionals,“ the week-long competition requires practice and diligence throughout the year. Faculty members join forces to prepare students for their individual and group events. Mrs. Kathy Martin heads the effort beginning in January with event selection.

After the students choose events, they begin the process of preparation. The students will compete in more than 50 events in the week-long competition. Each day begins with morning devotions with a guest speaker. Immediately following devotions, the students will disperse to competition rooms around the campsite. The competition continues throughout the day until the evening rally concludes the days’ activities. The week ends with an awards ceremony. First through sixth place medals are awarded in each area of competition. Additionally, contestants earning a top six placement may enter the International Student Convention at Central Missouri University in Warrensburg, MO.

All 7th to 12th grade students, parents, and grandparents were invited to attend the 6:30pm dinner. The change of venue provided guests a new atmosphere while maintaining a sophisticated ambiance appropriate to the occasion. Changing the venue did not change the purpose of the banquet. Sports Banquet 2009 purposed to honor the dedication, teamwork, and athleticism of the Pioneer Athletic Teams. The evening included dinner, awards, and special recognition of the players, coaches, and volunteers that made the 2008-2009 season successful.
